DanceStep student appreciationDee Dee The Dancer
For the last two years DS has had many of our senior students participating in the DanceStep Student Teacher Education Program. DanceStep is a 4 stage process which builds on the philosophy that dance helps teach students to be part of a team and community. This program provides a progressive and formalised education process including both practical and theoretical components. DanceStep empowers students to take care of others, guiding them to be leaders and role models at our studio and further. The program covers assistant teaching skills such as behaviour management, different learning needs and styles, Safe Dance Principles and Anatomy to name just a few.
This year the DanceStep program asked us to nominate some of our students for the DanceStep Awards. We had the very difficult task on nominating just 5 of our DanceStep students as they all do such an amazing job but we narrowed it down to the following:
Community Spirit Award – Lydia Kaye
Joy Award – Ella Grossman
Leadership Award – Sofie Macdonald
Initiative Award – Ella Patterson
Kindness Award – Brody Mitchell
We have just found out that Brody Mitchell has been selected as a FINALIST in the National DanceStep Awards for 2018! Huge congrats to Brody – we are very proud of you and grateful for what you bring to our studio.
DS has already been able to see the positive effects this program is having on our participating students; they are gaining confidence in the classroom, connecting with our younger students, and gaining valuable work experience. These benefits are also stretching to our younger students; having positive role models in the studio and forming trusting, healthy relationships within their dance community.
We are so excited to expand on our DanceStep program in 2019. We are planning more regular training sessions with guest trainers and more opportunities for our amazing student teachers to become leaders in their wider community.
…Keep an eye out for applications for 2019 !
